Bio

Muriuki Muriungi

Muriuki Muriungi, LL.B, LL.M, MSc (Oxon)

Partner, Financial Services Practice of KMK Africa Advocates LLP

I provide strategic legal advisory and build regulatory frameworks and compliance infrastructure for financial markets, drawing on my training across law, economics and finance.

Based in Nairobi-Kenya, my professional footprint spans East Africa, with active institutional links across Lagos, Abuja and Singapore.

Grounded in a dual foundation of law and economics, I developed an early focus on institutional and policy frameworks, market structures and the architecture of financial systems.

That academic grounding carried into university classrooms, where I spent some time teaching financial law (banking law and capital markets law), alongside authoring publications and presenting at various international conferences.

From there, I built a career as a policy and regulatory specialist in financial regulation where I continue to provide advice, being commissioned to conduct high-level policy work and research by key institutions including FSD Kenya, the Central Bank of Kenya, Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority, Competition Authority, the World Bank and the Kenya Bankers Association.

That path shapes how I lead as Co-Founder and Partner of KMK Africa Advocates LLP, Nairobi-based law firm, where I head the Financial Services Practice and collaborate closely with our affiliated teams in Nigeria and Southeast Asia.

Alongside my co-founder, I am now building an AI-native regtech startup, seeking to deliver an AI-native compliance platform and infrastructure for regulated industries across the African market.

Outside of my legal practice and technology ventures, I enjoy football (Liverpool FC), studying economic history and history of economic thought, investments, and following global developments.
